After trying the yummilicious french toast and yuan yang(coffee and tea mix) at Xin Wang Hong Kong cafe at Marina Square last week, I was eager for more Hong Kong cuisine. And when Brennan suggested trying out the new Hong Kong Cafe at Novena, I was more than game for it, after all, the sister cafe at East Coast Road has won more than its fair share of mention in foodblogs and newspapers. Armed with my camera, and an empty stomach, we met at 12 there. It was pretty empty at that time, so it was good. I had already browsed through the menu the night before, thus I had a pretty good idea what I wanted to order. Which was the french toast, yuan yang and desserts. The yuan yang was better than the one at marina square, being less milky. The taste was predominantly of tea with underlying hints of coffee and wasn't too cloyingly sweet. What I liked about it was the unique taste, a harmonious marriage of two drinks. The french toast was fried to perfection, with a crispy exterior and inside was all soft and fluffy, I poured lots of honey over it, and slowly enjoyed every bite of it, savouring every morsel.

Next up, was desserts. There ware quite a few choices for mango desserts, and each looked as good as the next. We finally settled for mango show hand, which is actually mango pudding topped with ice-cream and a almond cream with sesame tang-yuan. The mango show hand was pretty good, but nothing fantastic. I rather liked the almond cream which was thick and flavourful and the sesame tang-yuan was very soft and chewy. There was however only 2 miserable tang-yuans inside and at the price of $3.80, it was pretty steep. The menu is pretty extensive, check it out here. This is definitely a place I would come back again, maybe next time I would try othe things on the menu too.

By the time we left the place at 1pm, it was packed with office people, so its a good idea to come at 12 or later..
